The Third Annual International Education Conference (IEC) took place Friday, March
27, 2009 at the British American School of Charlotte, North Carolina.
The theme for the Third Annual IEC was "Teaching & Learning in a Global Classroom"
and the focus was on addressing critical challenges in international education from
a practitioner's viewpoint by exploring solutions to pressing questions. What do
other countries do in their classrooms and how can we relate that to our own teachings?
What impact is there on learning within those distinctive differences and how can
we apply it to our own educational systems? What similarities exist and what does
that say about the nature of international education and more deeply, learning around
the world? How can we create a culture through knowing others that offers the empathy
and depth of understanding needed to move forward?
Conference attendees ranged from international representatives to teachers and administrators
representing independent, charter and public K-12. The conference format offered
attendees an opportunity to network with like-minded individuals and extend their
reach locally and globally.
The 3rd International Education Conference offered all attending the opportunity
to not only listen, but engage with the latest thinking in education - framed in
an international context. The final outcome - that we not only understand the importance
of Teaching and Learning in a Global Classroom, but that we begin to know ourselves
more innately.
Many thanks to all who attended - and to our fabulous speakers.
